This series of photos is from the new Mequon, WI location for Deriah Boutique Salon, owned and operated by Shelley Szyszpak and Rachel Kernan. They have a current location in Cedarburg, WI, and were looking to expand. We worked together to develop styling stations that fit every function her staff would need, but also keep the work areas uncluttered. We complimented the cabinetry with tall mirrors, Rebecca Zuba of RZ Design, selected the lighting and did the rest of the interior space. Included in the project was the front desk. We created an arc-ing design that provides a welcoming entrance for their clients. Aluminum laminate accents both the front desk and the cabinetry. This was a fabulous project, and my largest ever. If you have the chance to stop in to Deriah, please do. Their professional staff offer a wide range of services and they do fantastic work as well. I get my haircut there, at least what's left of it!
This stair bannister is made entirely of yellow birch, and the panels are a textured tempered glass. All of the handrail, dividers, and other moldings were custom milled. In one of the detail photos, there are some hand-milled aluminum knobs. These are attached on both sides to threaded rod passing through the wood dividers, sandwiching and securing the glass in place.
This vanity is made of a South American wood called Cebil, or sometimes known as Patagonian Rosewood. The design called for it to be very simple, free of hardware, allowing the wood to be the focus. The center section with the glass door gives contrast to the wood, and tying it to other elements in the room.
This lounge chair was inspired by my Troupe series, Reclinae in particular. The client wanted a full lounger rather than a chair and footstool, and also wanted it custom fit to his height for maximum comfort. The upholstery is top-grain leather, and I do all of my own sewing. The hands, feet, and faces are cast aluminum-also doing my own casting. The two faces are adjustment knobs for the headrest height, and the feet have rubber pads recessed inside for floor protection.

Here's a few commission projects that I've completed recently. While I'm the designer and I have a good vision of what I'd like to produce, I feel it is equally as important that the Client be a part of the design process, being hands on in selecting materials, composition, and any other aspect of the project that would allow them to have some of their personal touch in the end result.
