Welcome to Figura Furniture and Design. This site exhibits unique, contemporary furnishings designed and built by yours truly, Terry Boyle.
I create unique pieces, utilizing a spectrum of woods, metals, and glass, unified in a design that moves the viewer to interact with it. Like having a seat in a chair, or running fingertips across a table surface. Each piece has its own character and personality-some more visibly than others. I think it's important that a piece of furniture speak for itself, through the form, material contrasts, and presence. Far worse to be relegated to drab, mundane silence. In naming the pieces, they're given poise, or brawn, or attitude. But they are now more than just art, or even functional art. They have an indentity.
While that all seems somewhat heady, I think it's a fairly simplistic notion. And I don't really believe in wild, deep meanings in art. Take a look at my gallery...Odinthron is a large, commanding chair; Placidae is a serene, pool shaped table; Giselle is a fanciful, gazelle-toed high-back chair. But the names are defining who they are. Take a look, you'll see what I mean.
